Recent projects in the Healthcare, Medical Technologies, Biopharmaceuticals and Cleantech sectors to receive LEED Gold Certification include:
Genzyme, Waterford, Ireland (pictured) was the first new construction LEED certified building in Ireland. The project received a total of 48/69 credits with top marks in both Innovation and Design and Water Efficiency.
Varian Medical Systems building in Palo Alto, California received LEED Gold Certification for a med tech manufacturing facility. The judges awarded all 36 credits that were applied for, easily surpassing the Gold threshold with a lot of credits reflecting the buildings sustainable energy and water systems.
Other projects to recently receive LEED GOLD certification include the Santana Row development. This is a high-profile Class A office building in San Jose, California.
Also in California, Solyndra's Back-End Manufacturing Facility in Fremont won a prestigious Award of Excellence from the Design-Build Institute of America. The building houses the final manufacturing process for Solyndra’s unique cylindrical solar power system. The award recognized the project team for the innovative adaptive reuse of a vacated Hewlett Packard assembly building into a modern solar panel manufacturing facility.
