Devereux first provided services on the 1,950sqm Peninsula Dental School in Devonport which contains 43 dental chairs in five clusters of eight and three chairs in individual surgeries, dental x-ray, a dental laboratory and teaching facilities. Devereux designed the school in line with the new curriculum conceived by the Dean which introduces a new concept in dental tuition based on client privacy whilst maintaining a high level of supervision and client safety.
The school is part of the Devonport Regeneration initiative and together with the Cumberland Centre and a new Primary Care Centre, will become known as the Cumberland Health Campus. The external materials, split block and render, reinterpret traditional local stone and stucco to provide a new dental school with a contemporary character.
Devereux also worked on the Peninsula Dental School in Truro, Cornwall. This was a four storey multi-purpose building. The two lower floors hold the new dental school accommodation and the two upper floors form an extension to the existing ‘Knowledge Spa’, providing extra accommodation for the Peninsula Medical School and associated research facilities.
The building, which was delivered via the ProCure21 route, reflects its purpose through the use of materials and the expression of the building, with the upper floors using the same language as the existing Knowledge Spa.
