The Project

Unibail-Rodamco is focused on sustainability

In 2017, Unibail-Rodamco appointed PM Group to provide the pre-construction and construction management services for an extension. The new extension to the 200,000 sq m Chodov Centre was created on the West elevation. In total, the building has six floors of retail space and is one of the largest in Prague with a capacity of over 600 cars. At roof level, there is a fitness centre, cafe, office space, engine room and parking spaces.

Sustainability is a key focus for Unibail-Rodamco, this is evident by its architectural design, combining unique interior and exterior design with maximum sustainability requirements. During the upgrade, the centre gained worldwide prestigious certification of "green buildings" BREEAM.

Supporting sustainability goals

Following a three year construction programme, the newly expanded and refurbished Chodov Retail Centre now has 200,000 sqm of leasable area with 300 units, all BREEAM certified. This is a new benchmark for retail real estate in Europe.

During the build PM Group's team supported the client's sustainability goals to reduce carbon emissions from construction, site traffic and collaborated to support better environmental practices.

“Great job! I think one of the best teams in the Czech Republic has worked with us on this project.” Said Peter Cernak, Head of Construction, Unibail-Rodamco.

Incorporating innovation

The result of this project was a BREEAM certified Shopping Centre with 300 retail units. This is a unique achievement in a European retail development. It is an innovation that will provide lower carbon footprint, emissions and energy efficiency throughout the centre's lifetime.

Arnaud Burlin, Managing Director of Central Europe and Austria for Unibail-Rodamco said: “This outstanding achievement is a clear demonstration of the daily commitment of the Chodov Shopping Centre management team to environmental issues, and the relevancy of the Group’s environmental management system implemented on each managed asset across Europe."
