International Flavours & Fragrances (IFF) is a leading manufacturer of flavours and fragrances. IFF developed a Greenfield flavours facility in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province. The new plant provides an additional 24,000 tonne / annum extra capacity to meet the growing demand of the Chinese market for IFF's products.

PM Group was appointed to provide a feasibility study, technical due diligence, master planning and full engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services on the project. The 16,000 sq m development comprises of five main buildings including production, utilities and warehousing. The facility can produce both Class A and Class C flavour products. Phase 1 of the project includes production capacity, support functions and utilities for powder blending and liquids compounding. Later phases are planned to include spray drying and future capacity increase.
“The project was a great success, achieving the production licence 3 months ahead of schedule.” Said Tony Zha, IFF Project Manager.
One million consecutive man-hours were worked on the site without a Lost Time Incident. Key to achieving this significant milestone was an integrated client, consultant and contractor approach to promoting a strong safety culture on site.
“The combined effort and collaboration between the 20 plus companies involved and over 2,200 workers on site led to successful completion.” Said Max Hong, Project Manager.
The production building and warehouse achieved LEED Silver certification and the facility has zero phosphate and nitrate discharge by zero water discharge. Max Hong explains; "We worked very closely with the IFF team to coordinate all of the local requirements and obtain approval for this project. Our site team worked in partnership with IFF to deliver this facility to the highest standards.”
