Dave Murphy, PM Group CEO, hosted a group of Munster based CEOs and executives this week to discuss current trends and challenges to building an inclusive and sustainable Ireland. The group also discussed the role of leadership in fostering meaningful collaboration.

Attendees were joined by Tomás Sercovich and Bernadette Phelan of Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI). They presented on the evolving landscape for business transformation and the roadmap to make ESG and Responsible Business mainstream.  

Cathriona Fitzsimons and Dr. Barry McDermott shared PM Group’s journey to align its business model as a sustainable organisation and embedding ESG into every part of the business. They spoke about their experience of attaining the Business Working Responsibly Mark  – a third party verified ESG standard, and referenced the importance of Leadership and a solid ESG framework as important enablers. 

Challenges around CO2 emissions reduction, carbon data capture and defining supply chain responsibilities were particular topics of interest.  The collective discussion also focused on transparency, accountability and the upcoming EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)  

Amongst the key takeaways was the need for meaningful collaboration between organisations to accelerate a just transition to Net Zero.  The group agreed that leadership is pivotal to building sustainable successful businesses and that targeted impactful action has to be a priority for all organisations at Board level.
