University College Dublin graduate, Gavin O’Rourke, recently won the PM Group Kevin Kelly Design Award 2018 for his contribution to his UCD Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering final year design project.

“The PM Group Kevin Kelly Design Award is one of the things we do as a company to encourage the next generation of engineers in Ireland. It recognises engineering graduates who have demonstrated that they can make a significant contribution to complex team design challenges. We’re delighted Gavin was chosen as this year’s recipient and he certainly has a bright future ahead in an industry with exciting career opportunities,” said Dave Murphy, CEO PM Group.

Gavin, a graduate of the UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering, won the award for his contribution to the team project “Design of plant to produce 100,000 MTPY of 99.7% styrene from the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene".

“Winning the Kevin Kelly Design Award in my final year at UCD was a great honour. I really enjoyed the challenge of the project and it meant a lot to have my work recognised by industry experts,” said Gavin O’Rourke.

Mary Kelly, wife of the late Kevin Kelly (former Chairman of PM Group) and Dave Murphy, CEO, PM Group made the presentation to Gavin at their Dublin office.  Also in attendance were:- UCD Associate Professor, Dr Damien Mooney, and course tutor, Michael Egan; PM Group’s Eileen Lee, Operations Manager Dublin; Elizabeth Falvey, Process Department Manager - Dublin; Emma Conway, Architectural Assistant, and Darragh O’Brien, EHS Engineer (pictured below).

Now in its 18th year, the annual PM Group design award was renamed in 2013 in honour of PM Group’s former Chairman, Kevin Kelly.
